Our Mission: To help seniors live safely and with dignity in our community.

We all want our older folks in West Marin to have long, healthy, vibrant lives. And we hope that when we’re older, we’ll be well-cared for too.

West Marin Senior Services is the organization that allows our community of West Marin to age in our community with dignity, feel safe, and be happy.

We’re invested in our people and our mission. But in order for us to keep doing the work that we’re doing, we need for you to invest in us.

We trust you believe that what we’re doing is important and that you will contribute financially to support our good work.

Through your donations, we are able to respond to the needs of seniors in our community quickly and effectively. Whatever the needs may be, our staff are available to provide resources with compassion and respect.

To donate appreciated stock, bonds or mutual funds, consider the following:

Generous investors often consider their stock portfolio when it is time to make a charitable gift. If you have stock that has appreciated, you have unrealized gains that can enable you to support WMSS and also receive additional tax benefits:

  • You can take a tax deduction at the full current fair market value of the stock.
  • You will NOT have to pay tax on any capital gain (note: You must have held the donated shares for more than a year – capital gain would be taxable if the stock were sold and not given directly to WMSS).

Endowment Funds

In addition to its annual operating needs, West Marin Senior Services seeks support for its endowment. An endowment is a pool of money invested for long-term growth and income. Earnings from the endowment support the general operating budget or designated specific programs. The principal in an endowment generates annual income for the organization. West Marin Senior Services has a general endowment fund which is managed by the Marin Community Foundation. Let us know if you are interested in our Endowment Fund.

Bequest

You can provide unrestricted or designated gifts for West Marin Senior Services in your Will through a bequest. You can choose to leave a dollar amount or a percentage of your estate to West Marin Senior Services. WMSS recommends you always check with your financial advisor and attorney. Legacy Giving

We invite you to consider leaving a legacy gift to WMSS that will sustain us as a vital community organization for future generations of seniors.  A donation to WMSS through your estate plan is a thoughtful way to ensure that in the decades to come West Marin elders, with our help, will be able to live safely and independently. Memorial Gifts and Gifts in Honor

You may wish to remember someone special in your life by making a gift in memory of or in honor of.

Gifts of Securities, Stocks and Bonds

Stock may be transferred to West Marin Senior Services by your broker. Gifts of stock often generate tax savings and the avoidance of capital gains. You may transfer stocks, bonds, and mutual funds directly to WMSS at Charles Schwab (contact us for the account number).

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions

We’d like to encourage seniors who have funds in an IRA (Individual Retirement Account) and are at least 70½ years old to contribute to West Marin Senior Services through what’s known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), also known as an IRA Charitable Rollover.

Individuals who are at least 70½ can instruct the financial institution administering their IRAs to directly transfer up to $100,000 to a qualified non-profit like West Marin Senior Services and pay no tax on the distribution.

Please note that to qualify your QCD as part of your required minimum distribution, the gift must be sent to WMSS directly from your financial institution, or from your check if written on that IRA account and the funds cleared from the account by December 31, 2025.

Thanks for your thoughtful support of West Marin Senior Services. For future gifts, you can also name WMSS as a beneficiary of your retirement account.

Real Estate and Property

You can give land, personal property, a vacation home, or rental property to West Marin Senior Services. These types of gifts require careful planning and we would be delighted to assist you. You may donate your home but retain the right to live in it and receive numerous benefits. You may also donate revenue from a business but retain the ownership. These gifts may generate tax savings and the avoidance of capital gains. WMSS recommends you always check with your financial advisor and attorney.

Life Insurance

You can name West Marin Senior Services as the beneficiary of your insurance policy and receive a tax deduction.

Matching Gifts

Corporations sometimes match the donations of their employees. Check with yours and request an employee matching gift form..

Legacy of Care Circle

Join us in becoming a member of the WMSS Legacy of Care Circle. Our Legacy of Care program honors those who have included West Marin Senior Services in their estate plans. Let us know that you have remembered us in your will or estate plans and you will become a member of the Legacy of Care Circle. As a member you will be invited to our appreciation events.
