HOLSTEIN HUNDRED HUGE SUCCESS!

Patrick Cook, Jake Krauss and Kit Krauss

What a great turnout for our biggest fundraiser of the year!  We had 750 riders come to the 17th Annual Holstein Hundred Charity Bike Ride, which netted nearly $40,000. We welcomed the youngest rider, age eight,  and the oldest, age 82, with over 50 riders in the “senior” age range.  One cool suggestion was to encourage intergenerational teams, just like the one you see above.

 A note from one rider:

“I wanted to take a minute for a hearty Thank You to all of the volunteers, safety personnel, rest stop crew, organizers, sponsors, supporters, and seniors. Everything from registration, abundant and high quality rest stop snacks, general camaraderie, and most importantly, the REASON for the ride has certainly made me an enthusiastic supporter of the Holstein Hundred with my bicycling friends.”

It is the homemade food that sets us apart from other rides. Thanks to our incredible volunteer cooks we had lots of homemade breads, over 600 homemade cookies, roasted potatoes, and local hard boiled eggs available to the riders at rest stops. In the kitchen helping with lunch, we had volunteers from the Coast Guard and other friends, making salads from local donated produce, slicing bread, cooking the lasagna, and keeping all the riders fed and happy. Our own staff member, Cynthia Hammond, adds her personal touch to make the lunch lasagnas extra special:  pesto zucchini lasagna gets high ratings from the riders. Our staff and volunteers work for weeks before and after the ride, and from 5:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. the day of the event.  We couldn’t do this without such fantastic support of our local volunteers.
